The world is facing an unprecedented challenge with communities and economies everywhere affected by the growing COVID-19 pandemic. It was incredulous to believe that Budhwar Peth, Pune’s famous red light area known for its colour, food and good life was not able to feed its residents even two meals a day. What we could provide on that day was a bit of food for a few mouths, but lots of hope for everyone living there.. In our own minds, we could not think of even a single profession, which was put out off a job as mercilessly as Sex trade, by both government and patrons. Their social status also forbid them from engaging in any other meaningful employment. Our goal is to empower such women to support their families independently and help children reach academic heights. Currently we at Purnkuti are raising funds to distribute happiness kits for sex workers at Budhwar Peth in Pune.
